SEO; Thin content explained
What is thin content?
Thin content means that there is no content of real value to the user. Google crawls the world wide web and are constantly on the lookout for pages with little or almost no content that is of any use to its users. This doesn’t mean that having loads of content would do the trick, especially if it's similar to other pages. It needs to be original content that is unique and fits well with your product or service. Since the Google Panda algorithm update in 2011, Google has been really good at identifying high and low quality content. This is when Google started the war against low quality content and made it extremely difficult for black hat SEOs trying to rank on search engine results pages (SERP).
What Google wants
Google aims to showcase the most suitable results that will match the search made by the user. If you want to rank high on Google, one of the factors to consider is to answer the question from the user. Therefore having good quality content that is informative and enjoyable to the user will be a good first step.
How to achieve your results
A good tip would be to produce unique quality content for keywords you would like to rank for. For instance, if you have enhanced knowledge within your specific topic and knows your industry inside and out, then it’s highly likely that you will cover the topic well and be noticed by Google.
It won’t always be easy to write unique and meaningful content. Take for example, an online shop that sells a lot of various car parts, besides from ‘what car this will fit’, there isn’t usually a lot of unique content for each product and it can be difficult to create. It’s always good to make sure that the pages have some form of introductory content instead of just a product code and an image. However, you could also focus on creating content for the category pages if the products are similar or use canonicals tags to avoid having duplicate content.
