Here are some useful tips to consider in order to maximise the potential of your photographs in your designs.
Consider your brand colours
When your branding or design work is produced normally colour will place a vital part of the design process. This can be further extended with clever use of photography using accent colour or complementary colours to blend seamlessly.
Use personal photos of yourself or your team
Using images of yourself or your staff members can be a great way to show your business's unique personality. It can make your business more approachable & be a great way to source likeminded clients that relate to your business.
Avoid overuse of filters & lens flare
Filters can date images & some are not to everyone’s taste. What’s in trend this month in filters may not be in six months' time. Overuse of effects such as lens flare can be distracting & take away from the message you are trying to convey. Sometimes a more natural image is better & conveys quality.
Hire a local professional
Using a local photography professional can really give an edge to your website & branding. Unique images can really set you apart from your competition & be a real reason your business is chosen over a competitor's.
Make images relatable to your target audience
When showing imagery of people, try to produce or choose images that will relate to the people you want to engage with. For example images of a wealthy man in a helicopter won't relate to the average UK worker. Similarly if your website is family orientated images of families or children would be suitable.
Keep file sizes low
File sizes from cameras or stock websites can be very large so that they can be used for print work. For general website use images should be reduced down to fit the largest available space & set to a DPI of 72dpi (Dots per inch).
